Asshole Of The Week: Not Forsaking The District…
But Ethics & Federal Law Are Another Story Altogether
One has to hand it to Mr. Olechowski. Before becoming Chair of Community Board 1 Brooklyn he co-chaired a committee regarding the 2005 rezone of the Williamsburg and Greenpoint waterfront. This is something of which he is quite proud. Now jump forward eight years to 2013. Mr. Olechowski is outraged that his fellow Polish-Americans are being displaced. His solution: circulate a petition demanding affordable housing be set aside for his comrades.
Is demanding a quota system based on ethnicity or national origin illegal? Absolutely. Please consult Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. It is better known as the Fair Housing Act.
Is Mr. Olechowski troubled by this fact? No, he is not. But we all know how the saying goes:
Shit in one hand, wish in the other and see which one fills up first.
At least Vito Lopez (an asshole extraordinaire in his own right) had the intelligence and dignity to be more subtle when it came to the Broadway Triangle project. One would have thought he of all people would have at least tried to impart the dark art of subterfuge to Mr. Olechowski before picking him to run for Democratic Male Leader. Or maybe he did? It has long been established that Mr. Olechowski is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out, Chris.
